Even after teaching numerous years in K-2 and using reading materials that promised to solve all our problems, the needs of a few of our students were not met. We knew there had to be a better way. Year after year of racking up credit hours, attending in services, reading numerous professional books, we found quick fixes but no long term effects. The reading process finally made sense to us after Reading Recovery Training. Our next step was to find best practices/materials for whole/small group instruction to meet the needs of our readers keeping in mind what we have found to work in the past. Our classroom practices have been guided by our heroes in the area of literacy: Marie Clay, Lucy Calkins, Carol Lyons, Jan Richardson, Elin Keene, Beth Swenson, Maryann McBride and others too numerous to mention. Our learning is ongoing and we are looking forward to exchange ideas and beliefs with you.
